From Warsaw winter to Pattaya: what humidity does to a cajon
Two winters ago I was in Warsaw, minus 12, radiators on full, and the front plate of my cajon was so dry it start to buzz on every slap. Now I live in Pattaya and it is the opposite story.
Here the air is 80 percent wet most days and the sea is 350 meters away. In first weeks the sound became dull, bass not so deep, I thought the drum is finished. Then I moved it from the floor near balcony door to the bedroom with aircon, and in three days it was back.
I bought my flat in Jomtien in July, found it on https://thailand-real.estate/ after two months of looking. One small room I planned as office from beginning, now it is office and drum room together. I play in afternoons, the building is quiet then.
How do you store wooden instruments in tropical climate? Aircon room always, or a box with silica gel is enough? On Sundays I start to play with a group on the beach and I don't want to carry it every time from 24 degrees to 33.
